Custom Tshirt - From
Slogans to Tie-Dyes
by John K Vincent
Custom tshirts have been
around for several decades, through the fifties and sixties to the
seventies and eighties, people could not get enough of custom tshirts.
Today, what's old is new again and the custom tshirt is back and in
style with jeans or just about any combination of clothing.
A custom tshirt can be form-fitting, meaning it fits your body and only
your body. If that is the case, then someone had to make or sew the
tshirt for you with your measurements in mind. Many people believe that
custom tshirts are expensive because they are usually hand made and made
only for you. This is true in some cases, but it's also a popular
misconception because a lot of custom tshirts can be mass produced and
distributed to a great number of people. Custom does not necessarily
mean unique or one of a kind, it just means made for you or by you.
There are many slogans on custom tshirts today. Some are politically
motivated, some are earth friendly while others are just silly and have
no real meaning and that seems to be the point of the custom tshirt.
There are thousands of different designs of custom tshirts available
today. Custom tshirts with slogans seem to be the most popular as of far
as recent fashion polls suggest and they can be worn with jeans or with
a skirt or jacket and pants. Men as well as women are wearing custom
tshirts with slogans or saying on them for a variety of reasons, but one
thing is for sure, you will get noticed if you have a saying or slogan
typed across your back.
There are several ways to custom make a tshirt for yourself rather than
purchase one. you can go down to the local thrift store and pick up
several used tshirts and once they have been washed, you can do all
kinds of things to them to make a custom tshirt. There is the old stand
by of tie-dying the tshirt, which is always popular. There are special
dyes you can buy at the craft store and then using rubber bands in
various positions around the tshirt, dye it and there you have it, a
custom tshirt which will remind you of the sixties. Add some iron
patches of peace signs or other lettering and you will have one unique
Many people, especially older people, will donate their used tshirts to
charities which in turn sell them to the public for next to nothing.
Many of these are tshirts with someone's name on them, like a tshirt
from a bowling league or a softball tournament. These are custom tshirts
because they are one of a kind and you can pick them up for a song! If
there happens to be a few of the same kind, you could buy them and wear
a different custom tshirt each day of the week or give them to your
friends so you all have similar tshirts.
